Our eight member fishing group stayed at Cabin #12 during the week of June 6 - 13, 2025, which was our second annual stay. We have already booked the cabin for 2026. As the senior member of this group, and as a member for approximately fifteen years, I can easily say Cabin #12 at Thunder Bay on beautiful Lac Vieux Desert is the best location / facility we have used for our group as it is on a scale of one to five - a ten!! The interior of the cabin is beautiful. It is completely outfitted for use. And, everyone in our group loves the location on the lake, the access to the public boat launch facility, and the general protection afforded from wind and waves during inclement weather. The fish cleaning facility built a little more than a year ago for use by resort visitors is beyond fantastic. The cabin boasts a large refrigerator and gas range within the spacious kitchen. Dining for eight works easily as does the spacious sleeping accommodations. As previously noted, the mattresses on the four full size beds are a little soft for our members' liking but we make due. The addition of the outside chest freezer (this year) added to our ability to freeze accumulated fish fillets. Thanks for adding it!! The nice outside deck overlooking Lac Vieux Desert is great for (after fishing) relaxation and adult beverages as desired. Transitioning from the cabin to the waterfront is always challenging due to the steep hill - and is not for the faint of heart, nor anyone suffering from back issues as I was this year. As we did last year, most of our members teamed up to ride down in cars from the cabin to the waterfront. Katy does an excellent job of management and we always look forward to seeing her during our trip. I might suggest that the contact / stay reminder be made a week prior to arrival rather than a day before arrival. As an "old dog", I prefer more lead time to know everything is in place and ready for us - just a preference. While weather greatly affects this magnificent fishing venue, having a week's stay in place allows for many fishing options. With less persistent winds this year (than last), we spent an enormous amount of time on the water. That allowed us to limit out in panfish and (nearly) in northern pike - although the size of pike seems to be diminishing. I believe there is a transition going on as the numbers and size of walleyes is increasing. All in all, our group is fully enamored with the opportunity to do this trip each year - for all of the reasons listed above. -dd

We rented cabin 12 at Thunder Bay Resort for opening fishing, the cabin was very nice and clean. My group of 6 enjoyed our 3 night stay. The cabin was more than we expected. Katy was fantastic to work with, she was easy to contact and book the cabin. One update I would recommend is Cabin 12 needs an outside power source in back of cabin where we parked our trucks and boats. We need to charge our boat batteries each day, thankfully I had 100 foot cord to make it work. The only complaint we had the docks were not in as promised. The public boat landing docks were not in neither, we drove to the Michigan side where public docks were in. So twice per day we had a 20 minute drive one way to put boats in the lake.
